BMR Calculator
BMR stands for Basal Metabolic Rate. It represents the number of calories a person's body needs to maintain basic physiological functions at rest. These functions include breathing, circulating blood, controlling body temperature, and supporting organ functions. BMR accounts for the largest portion of an individual's total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). Factors influencing BMR include age, gender, weight, height, and body composition. As a person's age increases or their weight decreases, their BMR typically decreases. On the other hand, males generally have a higher BMR than females due to differences in muscle mass. Accurate knowledge of BMR helps in understanding calorie needs for weight maintenance or establishing caloric deficits for weight loss purposes.
